Planning a Honeymoon in Morocco
Most couples want some of everything: a city, the desert and the sea. The secret is not trying to fit it all in.
A riad in the medina
Start or finish with two or three nights in a boutique riad in Marrakech or Fes: a quiet courtyard house behind a plain door, with breakfast on the roof terrace. Spend a day in the souks with a licensed guide, which we can arrange, and keep the evenings to yourselves.
The Sahara
For many couples the desert is the highlight. We book a tent at a luxury camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes, with the exact tent confirmed in your quote, and on request we look into a private dinner under the stars or a camp just for the two of you. Two nights at camp, as on the luxury Sahara tour, give you a full, unhurried day in the dunes.
The coast or the mountains
End with two slow days in Essaouira, a walled port town with sea breezes and fresh fish, as on the 10-day itinerary, or with a night in the High Atlas. Chefchaouen, the blue town in the Rif, suits couples who start in the north.
When to Go on Your Honeymoon
Wedding season and the best Moroccan weather overlap nicely.
Spring and fall
April, May, September and October are warm but not hot, with comfortable nights in the desert. After a June wedding, early June still works well, with early starts on drive days.
Summer
July and August are very hot in Marrakech and the Sahara. Keep the desert to one night and spend longer in Essaouira, where the Atlantic keeps it cool.
Winter
December to February is sunny and quiet, with cold nights. Bring warm layers for the desert; a riad room with a fireplace in Fes or Marrakech is hard to beat.
