Overview of This Rabat Day Trip
Rabat, Morocco’s capital, is about 90 km up the coast from Casablanca, an hour and a quarter by highway. Rabat is calmer and greener than Casablanca, with wide avenues and a small, easy medina. Its monuments span eight centuries: the unfinished 12th-century minaret of the Hassan Tower, the carved gate of the Udayas, the royal mausoleum with guards on horseback at its gates, and Chellah, where storks nest on Roman and medieval ruins.

The minaret of a mosque begun in the 1190s and never finished stands over a field of broken columns. Across the esplanade is the mausoleum of Mohammed V and Hassan II, open to visitors.
