Overview of This Ouzoud Falls Day Trip
The Ouzoud waterfalls are Morocco’s best-known falls, dropping about 110 m in several steps into a red-rock gorge 150 km northeast of Marrakech. On our private Ouzoud Falls day trip you walk down to the pools at the bottom, see the Barbary macaques that live in the olive trees and have lunch facing the falls, back in Marrakech by early evening.
The drive takes about 2 h 45 each way, through wheat fields and olive country. At the falls, a path with steps leads down past small water mills to the base, where boats take you close to the spray and a path crosses to viewpoints on the far side. The climb back up takes about 30 minutes.

The top of the falls
Start at the top, where the river pours over the edge, then take the path down through olive trees and old water mills. The steps are uneven in places, so wear good shoes.

The pools and the boats
At the bottom, small boats take you under the spray for a small fee paid on the spot. The Barbary macaques live in the trees around the gorge: watch them, but do not feed them.

How far are the Ouzoud Falls from Marrakech?
About 150 km, or 2 h 30 to 3 hours each way by car. That is why it is a full day: plan on about 10 hours door to door.
Is the walk down to the falls hard?
The path is steep in places with uneven steps: about 20 minutes down and 30 minutes back up. With small children or limited mobility, you can stay at the viewpoints at the top.
Can you swim at the Ouzoud Falls?
Some visitors swim in the calmer pools below the falls in summer. Bring swimwear and sandals if you would like to, and follow local advice on the day.
Are the monkeys at Ouzoud safe?
The Barbary macaques are wild but used to people. Keep food out of sight and do not feed them; they will grab bags.
