Our 2-week Morocco itinerary starts in Tangier, where the ferries from Spain arrive, and travels the length of the country: Tetouan and Chefchaouen, three nights in Fes, two in the Sahara, the Dades Valley, Marrakech and the coast at Essaouira, with your own driver and riads.
Fourteen days is enough to see Morocco properly, north to south. The route follows the country’s geography: the Mediterranean and the green Rif, the imperial cities of the interior, the Middle Atlas, the desert, the kasbah valleys and finally the Atlantic. It suits travelers combining Spain and Morocco, and anyone who wants time to stop in places rather than pass through them.

Day 1: Arrival in Tangier
Port or airport transferYour driver meets you at the ferry terminal, either Tanger Ville in town or Tanger Med along the coast, or at Tangier airport. In the afternoon, drive out to Cap Spartel, the lighthouse where the Atlantic meets the Mediterranean, and the Caves of Hercules. Back in town, walk up through the kasbah to the café terraces over the strait.

Day 2: Tangier to Tetouan and Chefchaouen
About 2 h 30 min driving · 125 kmStop first in Tetouan, whose white medina, built by refugees from Andalusia, is listed by UNESCO and sees few visitors. The road then climbs into the Rif to Chefchaouen, where you arrive with the afternoon free for its blue lanes.

Day 3: Chefchaouen and the Rif
Optional short drivesExplore the town at your own pace or with a local guide: the kasbah, the Outa el-Hammam square and the walk up to the Spanish Mosque. Nature lovers can spend the day at the Akchour waterfalls and God’s Bridge, a natural rock arch, about an hour away.

Day 4: Chefchaouen to Volubilis, Meknes and Fes
About 4 h 30 min driving · 290 kmHead south out of the mountains to Volubilis, the Roman frontier city with mosaics still in place, and Moulay Idriss, the holy town on the hill opposite. After Meknes and the Bab Mansour gate, you reach Fes by late afternoon.

Day 5: The Medina of Fes
No long drive todayA full day in Fes el-Bali with a licensed guide, which we can arrange: the Bou Inania Madrasa, the Al-Qarawiyyin mosque and library, the souks of the coppersmiths and weavers, and the Chouara Tannery. The guide will also show you where to eat the best street food in the medina.

Day 6: Fes at Your Own Pace
No long drive todayA second day for the parts of Fes that tours skip: the Royal Palace gates and the Mellah in Fes el-Jdid, the Jnan Sbil garden, a pottery workshop outside the walls, or a cooking class. It is also a rest day before the drive south.

Day 7: Fes to Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi Dunes
About 8 h driving · 470 kmThe road crosses the Middle Atlas by Ifrane and Azrou, then drops through Midelt into the Ziz Valley, a long green canyon of palm groves. At Merzouga you ride a camel into the dunes of Erg Chebbi for sunset and your first night in the desert.

Day 8: The Desert Around Merzouga
Short 4×4 drives around the dunesSpend a full day in the Sahara: a 4×4 loop around the dunes, Gnawa music in the village of Khamlia, the old Saturday market town of Rissani, and tea with a nomad family. Try sandboarding in the late afternoon. We confirm with your quote whether you spend this night at camp or at a hotel by the dunes.

Day 9: Merzouga to Todra Gorge and the Dades Valley
About 5 h driving · 290 kmHead west through a string of oasis towns to Todra Gorge, with time to walk into the canyon. Continue to the Dades Valley, where the road winds between red cliffs and fig trees, for a night in a kasbah hotel.

Day 10: Ait Ben Haddou and over the Atlas to Marrakech
About 6 h 30 min driving · 320 kmVisit the Skoura palm grove and the Kasbah Amridil, then Ait Ben Haddou, which is best seen on foot. Cross the High Atlas by the Tizi n’Tichka and reach Marrakech in the evening.

Is 2 weeks in Morocco too long?
Not if you like to travel slowly. Two weeks covers the whole country with rest days built in: two nights in most places, and six days with little or no driving.
Can we take the ferry from Spain to start this 14 day Morocco tour?
Yes, that is what the route is built for. Ferries from Tarifa arrive at Tanger Ville in the town center, and ferries from Algeciras arrive at Tanger Med, about 45 minutes away. Your driver meets you at either port.
What is the best Morocco itinerary for 14 days if we fly?
Start in Casablanca and follow the same route from Rabat onward, or fly into Tangier. Tell us your flights and we adjust the first and last days.
Can we return to Spain at the end?
Yes. We can end in Tangier instead of Essaouira, which changes the second week to a loop back north. We suggest the return via Rabat and Asilah on the coast.
What is the best time for 2 weeks in Morocco?
March to May and September to November. The Rif and the Middle Atlas are green in spring, and October is ideal in the desert.
